You're listening to Sports Desk, let's get into it.
The Houston Astros are heading into a full rebuild of the braintrust. A new front office leader and a new manager are both coming for twenty twenty seven, and roster turnover could be significant. The division title this year papered over what was genuinely a disappointing season, and ownership clearly isn't satisfied with papering over anything anymore.
Meanwhile in college football, the first CFP rankings are out and Texas is sitting at number seven despite carrying two losses, a testament to the strength of their signature wins. Texas Tech checks in at fifteen, and Houston lands at seventeen — the highest ranking in Cougar program history for the CFP era. With Miami sitting undefeated atop the board, the race for those top seeds is going to be fierce down the stretch.
And over in Detroit, the Red Wings can't catch a break. Goaltender John Gibson left Tuesday night's game against Tampa Bay with a lower-body injury and did not return. For a franchise already fighting for relevance in the Eastern Conference, losing your starting goalie mid-game is the last thing Hockeytown needed heading deeper into November.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
