In Buffalo, the Sabres took a brutal blow Monday night when captain Rasmus Dahlin left the game against the Panthers with an upper-body injury in the second period and did not return. Losing your captain mid-game is never the script you draw up, and the severity remains unclear heading into the week.
Meanwhile in Chicago, there is genuine excitement building around the Blackhawks as Connor Bedard is expected to make his season debut Tuesday night against the Penguins. The captain missed time recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, but he's ready to go, and Pittsburgh better be prepared because Bedard does not ease into anything.
And out in San Francisco, the forty-niners are dealing with yet another hit to an already fragile wide receiver room, with head coach Kyle Shanahan confirming Deebo Samuel is sidelined. This offense has been decimated at the position all season, and at some point the depth chart stops being a depth chart and starts being a prayer.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
