You're tuned in to Sports Desk, let's get after it.
The Los Angeles Kings finally broke through Tuesday night, ending their drought as the NHL's last winless team with a five to two dismantling of Washington. The offense showed up in a big way, but the night came with a cost — center Quinton Byfield left in the first period with an upper-body injury, and his status going forward is a real concern for a Kings squad still trying to find its footing.
Over in the NBA, Opening Night at Madison Square Garden had all the pageantry you'd expect — rings, ceremony, the whole thing — but the Knicks couldn't back it up on the floor. Philadelphia walked out of New York with the win, and head coach Mike Brown didn't mince words after, calling out the team's transition defense and their failure to handle the little details that decide close games early in a season.
Meanwhile in Detroit, the Red Wings dropped a heartbreaker in Seattle, falling four to three in a shootout despite a stunning power play goal from Alex DeBrincat with sixteen point three seconds left to force overtime. It's a tough one to swallow, and the noise around Dylan Larkin's expanding trade list isn't making the locker room any quieter.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
