Fernando Mendoza made his NFL debut look anything but rookie-level. The Raiders signal-caller completed ten of sixteen passes for ninety-seven yards and a touchdown across four drives against the Cardinals, and the early word out of Las Vegas is that this kid has something real. The ascending label might actually be earned.
Shifting to the diamond, the Angels offense finally woke up in Anaheim. Mike Trout went three for five with a run scored and an RBI, while rookie Walbert Urena was dominant through six innings, surrendering just two hits on his way to win number eight. Los Angeles took the series over Texas, and with the bats finding life again after a brutal stretch, the Angels are quietly worth watching down the stretch.
And over on the WTA circuit, Iga Swiatek is back in the winner's circle. The seventh seed dispatched Elena Rybakina six-two, six-three in what was a remarkably clean performance, claiming her first tournament title of twenty twenty-six. Rybakina had the ranking advantage but Swiatek had the answers, and it wasn't particularly close from the second set onward.
