The NFL preseason kicked off Thursday night with some genuine buzz around the league's newest faces. No. one overall pick Fernando Mendoza made his debut for the Las Vegas Raiders, while Arizona Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love also got his first taste of action. Tennessee's Cam Ward and wide receiver Carnell Tate added to the night's storylines, giving fans plenty of early reasons to pay attention.
Over in Pittsburgh, the Steelers got a double dose of good news at quarterback. Rookies Drew Allar and Will Howard both looked composed and capable in a twenty eight to nine preseason win over Green Bay. Poised is the word coming out of the locker room, and for a franchise still searching for its long-term answer under center, that word carries real weight right now.
And we have a sad story to pass along from the world of golf. Eighteen-year-old Australian rookie Jessica Bang passed away Thursday in a Bangkok hospital after collapsing on August first while preparing for a tournament in Thailand. She had undergone emergency brain surgery. The Australian golf community is grieving deeply, and tonight the sport mourns a talent taken far too soon.
