You're locked in to Sports Desk, let's get after it.
Chase Utley is officially immortalized in Philadelphia. The six-time All-Star and cornerstone of the two thousand eight World Series championship squad was inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame on Friday night, a celebration that brought Citizens Bank Park to its feet and reminded the city exactly why he was always their guy.
Over in the Bronx, the Yankees refused to let the Red Sox gain any ground, staging a dramatic late comeback to knock off the Braves and snap Atlanta's eight-game winning streak in the process. It was a rough night for Tyler Mahle, who made his Braves debut only to watch the bullpen surrender the lead in the final innings. Max Fried, facing his former team for the first time, had to feel something about that one.
Meanwhile in Arizona, the Dodgers are in freefall. Edwin Diaz gave up a walk-off home run to Diamondbacks number nine hitter Ryan Waldschmidt, just his second career long ball, extending Los Angeles's losing streak to a season-high seven games. A team sitting at sixty-nine and forty-seven should not be losing games like this, and right now nobody in that clubhouse has an answer.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
