Welcome to Sports Desk, let's get into it.
Lando Norris is on another level right now. The McLaren driver claimed pole position at Interlagos in torrential rain, clocking a one minute twenty seven point four seven zero on intermediates to make it three consecutive poles. Wet, wild, and utterly dominant — Norris owns this circuit.
George Russell was right there with him, splitting the front row on pace, but a five-place grid penalty means he drops back before a single wheel turns in anger on race day. Russell was furious with Mercedes after the team aborted one of his laps during Q three, believing he had the pace to go faster. Whether that's true or not, the penalty makes the argument largely academic.
Meanwhile, the grid behind Norris has some intrigue — Kimi Antonelli slots into second on the starting grid, fresh off his historic world championship sealed in Mexico City. Toto Wolff was so moved by that title win he apparently sent an epic emotional email to the entire Mercedes factory, which somehow found its way online. Wolff addressed it during the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend, calling it a genuine expression of what the moment meant to him and his team.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
