Baltimore took a serious hit Thursday night as All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton was ruled out against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a hip injury. Hamilton went down at M&T Bank Stadium in Week nine, and the Ravens lost one of their most important defensive pieces with Trevor Lawrence still under center for Jacksonville. That is a significant blow to a Baltimore defense that cannot afford to be short-handed.
Shifting to the gridiron in Austin, Texas running back Hollywood Smothers is done for the season after tearing his MCL, and the timing could not be worse for the number seven Longhorns. The injury woes in Austin are mounting fast, and with the College Football Playoff picture tightening up, every healthy body matters enormously for a Texas team with serious national ambitions.
And in New York, Knicks veterans Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart are speaking openly about rookie Yaxel Lendeborg's trash-talking on the court. Both players are advising him to dial it back, which tells you something — when your own teammates are pumping the brakes on your mouth, the message is coming from a real place. The kid has talent, but the veterans are keeping it honest.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
