Shohei Ohtani is cleared, and the Dodgers could not sound more relieved. Los Angeles president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman confirmed Wednesday that Ohtani will not require surgery for any ailment he dealt with this past season, and went further, saying he fully expects Ohtani to pitch next year. That is massive news for a franchise built around his two-way brilliance.
Across the Atlantic, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta delivered a gut punch to Gunners supporters after their Champions League draw with Bayern Munich. Bukayo Saka limped off with a quadriceps injury, and Arteta was blunt about it, saying it does not look good at all. Saka has been Arsenal's most dangerous weapon this season, and losing him for any stretch of time reshapes their entire campaign.
Meanwhile in Detroit, the Lions are getting a significant piece back on defense just in time for Sunday's showdown with Green Bay. Brian Branch returns to the lineup, and the Lions organization made no attempt to hide their excitement, calling him an elite player in this league. The Packers better take notice — that secondary just got a whole lot more dangerous.
