The WNBA Finals are underway, and the drama didn't stay on the court. XX-XY Athletics founder Jennifer Sey attended Game one of Golden State's win over the Atlanta Dream and says she was verbally attacked by Valkyries fans in the building. Sey, who's been vocal all summer supporting Sophie Cunningham's stance against transgender athletes in women's sports, took to social media afterward saying she was glad she left San Francisco. Quite a scene on what should've been a landmark night for the league.
Shifting to the boxing ring, referee Amy Pu is facing serious scrutiny after refusing two corner attempts to throw in the towel for British heavyweight Dan Garber before he was knocked out cold on the undercard of Dubois versus Wardley two at London's O2 Arena. Garber is forty-one years old, fighting in his seventh bout of the year, and was stopped by twenty-year-old Irish prospect Adam Olaniyan. The boxing community is asking hard questions about fighter safety tonight.
And over at Real Madrid, Fabrizio Romano reports the club is closing in on four contract renewals, with key deals said to be nearly finalized behind the scenes. After a mixed start to the season on the pitch, Los Blancos are clearly moving to lock in their core and signal stability heading deeper into the campaign.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
