You're tuned in to Sports Desk, let's get after it.
In Philadelphia, the nightmare keeps going. Andrew Copp buried a point-blank shot with under five minutes left, lifting the Detroit Red Wings past the Flyers two to one and sending Philadelphia to a franchise-record ninth consecutive loss to open a season. Zero and six and three — the Flyers are in historic territory, and not the good kind.
Up in Toronto, the hockey story goes from bad to scary. The Maple Leafs blew a four-to-two lead and fell to Buffalo in overtime five to four, but the real alarm came in the third period when John Tavares collapsed after Sabres forward Josh Norris slid into his legs. Tavares stayed down on the ice and the status on one of the league's most respected veterans is something every hockey fan is watching closely tonight.
And out in Los Angeles, the shine is officially off. The Rams were supposed to be the team of two thousand twenty six, but after splitting four straight and taking a Monday night overtime loss to Buffalo, Matthew Stafford and company are now fighting just to stay relevant in the NFC West. The super team label has a very short shelf life when the wins stop coming.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
