Tampa Bay sent a message Wednesday night, and Victor Mesa Junior delivered it with one swing. The Rays completed a sweep of the Yankees, four to three, with Mesa's home run sealing a win that confirmed what the whole division already knew — the Bronx Bombers simply have no answer for Tampa Bay this season.
Meanwhile in San Diego, the Padres are going home after one of the cruelest exits you'll see in October baseball. Manny Machado launched what looked like a game-tying shot in the eighth, but Garrett Mitchell went full highlight reel at the wall and stole it back. The Brewers are heading to the NLCS for the second straight year, and Machado was understandably furious.
On the hardwood, the WNBA playoffs delivered back-to-back stunners Wednesday night. Angel Reese was clutch when it mattered most, and both the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries now hold two-nothing series leads. The Liberty and the Aces are staring down elimination, and this postseason just got a whole lot more urgent.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
