The Philadelphia Eagles came into Monday night with every conceivable advantage — a Bears offense running on fumes behind third-string quarterback Case Keenum — and still walked out of Soldier Field with a loss. Bizarre play-calling, a defense that got carved up, and a head coach, Nick Sirianni, who had to apologize after being caught on camera cursing out a Bears linebacker who hit Jalen Hurts. Hurts himself was fuming after a medical delay kept him sidelined mid-game, and the whole night felt like a franchise unraveling in prime time.
Meanwhile the postseason is officially here, and baseball fans have four wild card games on the schedule today coast to coast. The matchup drawing the most attention is Philadelphia — yes, the Eagles aren't the only Philly team under pressure — as the Phillies travel to Atlanta to open their NL Wild Card series against the Braves. Chris Sale takes the ball for Atlanta in game one, and the pitching edge is so significant it's almost hard to argue against the Braves right now.
And up on Capitol Hill, the U.S. Senate passed the Protect College Sports Act, the first major legislative step toward reshaping how college athletics operates. The House is next, and the ripple effects across recruiting, revenue sharing, and athlete rights could be enormous.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
