Welcome to Markets Desk, your midday read on what's moving markets and why.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng is pointing lower again Tuesday after snapping a five-session winning streak Monday, surrendering ground after a rally that had added more than eight hundred eighty points over nearly two weeks. Traders are watching the twenty-five thousand five hundred level closely as a near-term floor.
Shifting to energy, Woodside Energy posted a seven percent rise in first-half profit, a solid if unspectacular result that's doing less to move the stock than the takeover chatter swirling around it. Speculation of a control bid is growing louder, and in resources M-and-A, where there's smoke there's usually a drilling rig nearby.
And in crypto, Bitcoin is closing in on eighty thousand dollars, outpacing both equities and gold over the past six months. The catalyst last week was the Treasury Department's signaling around buybacks of longer-dated Treasurys, which eased duration pressure across risk assets and sent Bitcoin surging. It last touched this level back in May, and the question now is whether the macro tailwind holds.
That's the tape. Markets Desk, signing off the floor.
