The biggest story in the NFL today comes out of Minnesota, where the Vikings have officially handed the starting quarterback job to Kyler Murray over second-year man J.J. McCarthy. Sources confirmed the decision to ESPN's Adam Schefter ahead of the first preseason game, and it signals a full commitment from the organization to the veteran Murray as the face of the offense going forward.
That leaves McCarthy in a difficult spot. After being drafted with significant expectations, his path to meaningful playing time in Minnesota now looks narrow at best. The Vikings have made their choice, and unless something changes dramatically, McCarthy may need to start weighing what his future looks like beyond the Twin Cities.
Shifting to the hardwood of women's boxing, Claressa Shields fights Saturday, August fifteenth at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, and the talk of the town is whether Laila Ali will be in the building. Promoter Dmitriy Salita says he has ringside seats held for Ali, but her business partner says she will not be attending, putting a potential blockbuster matchup between the two legends back on the back burner for now.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
