In the Bronx last night, George Lombard Junior made history in his very first major league at-bat, becoming the third-youngest Yankee ever to homer on debut. What makes it even more remarkable — his younger brother went deep in his own professional debut the same night. Two brothers, two first games, two home runs. That's not coincidence, that's bloodline.
Speaking of statement performances, Troy Melton was absolutely dominant on the mound in Seattle, spinning seven scoreless innings as the Detroit Tigers dismantled the Mariners eight to nothing. Riley Greene, Gleyber Torres, and a third Tiger all went yard, giving Detroit a commanding road win. The Mariners had no answers, and Melton gave them none to find.
And over in Tampa Bay, Liam Hicks announced himself to the major leagues in the loudest way possible — a grand slam in his very first game as a Ray, helping sink the Colorado Rockies and giving the Rays a victory that had the whole clubhouse buzzing. First impressions don't get much louder than that.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
