Good morning, you're listening to Markets Desk.
Stocks pushed to fresh record territory on Tuesday, with the S&P five hundred climbing nearly two percent to close at seven thousand seven hundred thirty seven, the Dow clearing fifty four thousand, and the Nasdaq adding more than two and a half percent. Easing geopolitical tensions drove the broad-based rally, with investors rotating back into risk assets after several sessions of caution.
Shifting to earnings, SpaceX reported a ninety two percent surge in second quarter revenue in its debut earnings release, handily beating analyst expectations. Despite the strong top-line performance, shares dropped as much as eight percent on the session, a reminder that even blowout numbers can disappoint a market that had already priced in optimism.
Meanwhile, Chipotle took a meaningful hit after a salmonella outbreak in Minnesota was linked to jalapeños at several of its locations. Shares fell nearly ten percent, closing just under thirty four dollars. The company pulled jalapeños from affected stores and said health investigators had no ongoing concerns, but the food-safety headlines rattled investors watching both traffic trends and brand trust heading into the back half of the year.
That's the tape. Markets Desk, signing off the floor.
