Wall Street closed Thursday in the green, led by a sharp move higher in semiconductor names. The Nasdaq one hundred gained one point six two percent, the S&P five hundred added eighty-one basis points, and the Dow tacked on just over a quarter percent. Falling crude oil prices, down roughly two percent on the session, helped cool inflation expectations and gave equity bulls room to run.
That crude decline also weighed on the dollar, with the dollar index slipping eight basis points as risk appetite improved and liquidity demand for the greenback eased. A softer dollar alongside lower energy costs is the kind of combination that keeps Fed easing hopes alive heading into the back half of the year.
Turning to the AI space, OpenAI is losing one of its highest-profile executives. Fidji Simo, the company's CEO of applications and former Instacart chief, is stepping down following a medical leave of three months. She transitions to a part-time advisory role, leaving a meaningful gap in OpenAI's senior leadership at a critical moment for the company's commercial expansion.
