Good evening, this is Markets Desk with your closing rundown.
Stocks finished mostly higher Tuesday, with the S&P five hundred gaining about a third of a percent and the Nasdaq one hundred up nearly seven tenths, driven by chipmaker strength. The Dow was the outlier, slipping just under four tenths of a percent as tech carried the session and industrials lagged.
Speaking of chips, Onsemi is making a calculated bet on artificial intelligence over autos. After its AI data center revenue surged one hundred seventy five percent in the third quarter, the company is deliberately prioritizing that business, delaying restocking orders from automakers. It is a clear signal of where semiconductor demand is concentrated right now, and where margins are most attractive.
On the dollar, the index edged up about a tenth of a percent as Treasury yields climbed on better than expected economic data. September JOLTS job openings and factory orders both came in ahead of forecasts, reinforcing the view that the economy remains resilient. A weaker Chinese yuan added further support to the greenback, pushing it to a one and a half week high against that currency.
That's the tape. Markets Desk, signing off the floor.
