Welcome to The Light, your quiet hour of reflection.
Collins Dictionary has given its blessing to a word already living on our tongues — mogging, meaning to outshine or outperform someone so completely that they are left looking diminished. It is a word born in the competitive corners of the internet, and yet it arrives at a moment worth sitting with: what does it mean to us, culturally, that our freshest language is the language of dominance.
And then, held against that, something quieter and more durable. In a Missouri prison, incarcerated fathers danced with their daughters for the very first time, an event organized by the ministry God Behind Bars. There were no words adequate to that room, only the kind of presence that reminds us restoration is possible even inside the places we have decided are beyond it.
Elsewhere, researchers are tracing the strange loop between wishful thinking and political polarization — how what we want to be true shapes what we believe, and how what we believe deepens the divide. It is a finding that asks something uncomfortable of all of us: where in our own convictions does desire quietly do the work we credit to reason.
That is this hour's reflection. Carry the light gently.
