Welcome to The Light, your quiet hour of reflection.
On this Reformation Day, a Pennsylvania synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will install its first female bishop — a moment five centuries in the making, arriving on the very anniversary that reshaped Western Christianity. History, it seems, does not stand still even as it circles back.
From one threshold to another — Pope Leo the Fourteenth has confirmed an apostolic journey to Latin America this November, visiting Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru. He speaks of returning with joy, as though the continent holds something personal for him, something that draws rather than merely calls.
And in the shadow of ongoing war, the Vatican has organized a solidarity collection ahead of an archbishop's visit to Ukraine. The papal almoner received it with gratitude, calling it a beautiful witness — a reminder that institutions, at their best, do not only speak of suffering but move toward it, quietly, with open hands.
That's this hour's reflection. Carry the light gently.
