Washington's most anticipated debut will have to wait — AJ Dybantsa, the number one overall pick in this year's NBA draft, will not suit up for the Wizards' season opener Wednesday after rolling an ankle. The rookie phenom from one of the most hyped draft classes in recent memory is sidelined before he even takes his first professional step, and Washington fans who packed their calendars around tip-off will have to hold their breath a little longer.
Shifting to the ice, Brady Tkachuk is heading back to Ottawa for the first time as a Florida Panther, and he's already getting ahead of the drama. The former Senators captain says any Ottawa jerseys thrown onto the ice in protest of his return will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. That's a sharp move — turning a moment of fan frustration into something genuinely meaningful for the community he played in for years.
And in Los Angeles, the Chargers' nightmare season is now generating some serious trade deadline noise. At oh and six, the expectation around the league is a significant sell-off, and safety Derwin James is drawing the most attention. Under contract through twenty twenty nine, James is the kind of positionless, do-everything defender that contenders will absolutely be calling about.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
