You're tuned in to Sports Desk, let's get into it.
Don Mattingly is staying in Philadelphia. The former interim skipper, who took over just twenty-eight games into the season and steered the Phillies all the way to the playoffs, has agreed to a two-year deal to make it official. From emergency call-up to franchise cornerstone, Mattingly earned every bit of that contract.
Shifting to the hardwood, the basketball world is watching Denver closely. Despite public assurances from the organization, analyst John Hollinger is raising flags about Nikola Jokic's max extension looming in two thousand twenty-six, twenty-seven, calling the concern quote justifiable paranoia. When you finish second in MVP voting and your future still draws question marks, that's a front office situation worth monitoring.
And a lighter moment out of SoFi Stadium, because Josh Allen gave us one. After Buffalo's overtime thriller against the Rams in week five, cameras caught Allen scanning the sideline and the tunnel, not looking for a coach, not looking for a teammate, looking for his wife Hailee Steinfeld, who was in the building. He found her. The Bills won. Sometimes the game ends and the only thing that matters is finding your person.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
