You're tuned in to Sports Desk, let's get into it.
The Chicago Bears are taking a hit before the season even gets going. Defensive end Montez Sweat has been handed a two-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league's performance-enhancing substance policy. For a Bears defense that was already showing cracks, losing one of their most disruptive pass rushers off the edge — even temporarily — is a significant setback heading into the year.
Shifting to Boston, the Celtics are locking up one of their own. Guard Payton Pritchard has agreed to a two-year extension worth forty-four point two million dollars, with a mutual option tacked on for the twenty twenty-nine to thirty season. Pritchard turned himself into a genuine weapon off the bench last year, and Boston clearly wasn't about to let that kind of shooting and energy walk out the door.
And down in Orlando, the Magic may have found something in first-year head coach Sean Sweeney. Big man Wendell Carter Junior is already singing the new coach's praises, saying Sweeney brings championship habits to the building and that the sky's the limit for this group. Early impressions matter, and right now Sweeney is making the right ones.
