You're tuned in to Sports Desk, let's get into it.
Gary Bettman is putting the league on notice about no-trade clauses, telling ESPN he believes players are no longer using them as originally intended — instead leveraging them to force moves to preferred destinations after requesting trades. Bettman didn't mince words, and you can expect this to be a serious conversation point in the next collective bargaining cycle.
Meanwhile in the NFL, Joey Porter Junior is out of Pittsburgh and headed to Dallas, and he is not shy about why. The cornerback told reporters he felt disrespected and undervalued by the Steelers organization, and says he wants to finish his career with the Cowboys. He's coming off a back injury that wiped out training camp and the first three weeks of the season, but insists he's feeling better and is ready to contribute.
And out in Los Angeles, Luka Doncic and the Lakers are officially back at it. Training camp opened Tuesday after Media Day Monday, with the first preseason game set for October eighth against Sacramento. Coach JJ Redick addressed Doncic's availability for the preseason, and all eyes are locked on how this roster takes shape heading into two thousand twenty six to twenty seven.
