Down in St. Petersburg, Drew Rasmussen was absolutely dealing Tuesday night. The Tampa Bay Rays right-hander carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning, shut down the Yankees, and gave his team a six to one victory that clinched their fifth American League East title. Tampa Bay is back on top of the division.
Meanwhile in Denver, the Colorado Rockies have hit a grim milestone. Arizona's Michael Soroka struck out nine over seven innings, Nolan Arenado went deep for his twenty-eighth homer of the year, and the Diamondbacks rolled seven to two, handing Colorado its one hundredth loss of the season — their fourth straight year at that mark. Arizona stays alive in the wild card race, four back of Philadelphia.
And in college football, Clemson heads into Saturday's road test at California with some real uncertainty on defense. Multiple starters are listed as questionable, including nickel back Corian Gipson, who Dabo Swinney says has been banged up for weeks. A ten thirty kickoff on ESPN, and the Tigers cannot afford to be shorthanded against a California squad sitting at two and one in the ACC.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
