The Tampa Bay Rays made history Tuesday night, clinching the AL East title with a six to one demolition of the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium — their fifth division crown overall and the earliest clincher in franchise history. Drew Rasmussen was absolutely untouchable, surrendering just one hit across six and two thirds innings, while Yandy Díaz did the damage at the plate with a pair of two-run singles. The Yankees now slide into the wild-card round without Aaron Judge.
Meanwhile in the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers locked up a first-round bye despite dropping a six to four decision to the Philadelphia Phillies. It didn't matter — Atlanta fell to Cincinnati on the same night, and just like that, Milwaukee earns home rest while the rest of the NL wild-card field battles it out. Back-to-back years with a bye for the Brew Crew.
And over in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever delivered a statement, routing the Minnesota Lynx ninety six to seventy seven in Indianapolis. The Fever led by as many as twenty nine in the first half — a deficit the Lynx had never faced all season. Clark powered the charge as Indiana tightens its grip on playoff positioning heading down the stretch.
