Jon Jones is making headlines without throwing a single punch. The former heavyweight champion has stepped forward to take the blame for Gable Steveson's early exit from the cage at UFC three thirty one, after Steveson was knocked cold by massive underdog Sean Sharaf in just twelve seconds. Jones says the premature departure was on him, not Steveson, adding an awkward footnote to what was already a stunning upset for the young Olympic wrestling standout.
Shifting to the gridiron, the New York Giants opened Monday Night Football with some early momentum before it all unraveled fast. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart went down with a knee injury on the very first drive, and Jameis Winston couldn't keep the offense breathing. The Rams took full advantage, walking away with the win. The good news out of East Rutherford this morning is that Giants GM Joe Schoen says Dart is, quote, going to be okay, which is about the only positive the Giants can hold onto right now.
And across the Atlantic, Bayern Munich is making it crystal clear they want Harry Kane long-term. Club president Herbert Hainer says they expect Kane to stay, and sporting director Max Eberl is going as far as backing the England captain for Ballon d'Or consideration. Kane's contract runs out at season's end, but Munich isn't sweating it.
