It was a busy week in the sports business world, with blockbuster trades shaking up the NBA and roster moves rippling across every league. Let's get into it.
The biggest story this week, no question, is what happened in the NBA. Charlotte and Minnesota pulled off a massive deal β the Hornets shipping LaMelo Ball and Josh Green to the Timberwolves in exchange for Naz Reid and draft considerations. Minnesota gets their star, Charlotte gets a proven big man and future assets, and both franchises are betting big on a new direction. Minnesota wasn't done there either, re-signing Jaylen Clark and Ayo Dosunmu, and adding Isaiah Evans. Meanwhile, Brooklyn sent Julius Randle to Minnesota and Nic Claxton to Chicago, waived Malachi Smith, and signed Joshua Jefferson to a rookie scale contract. On the free agency front in the NBA, Austin Reaves stays in Los Angeles, Jordan Clarkson returns to New York, and Houston lands Marcus Smart. Utah had a big week too, bringing in Jaxson Hayes, Josh Okogie, and Mo Bamba, then locking up Jusuf Nurkic. Indiana adds Larry Nance Junior and re-signs Kobe Brown to a two-way contract.
Over in the NFL, Detroit made a tough call releasing cornerback Terrion Arnold, while San Francisco announced the retirement of wide receiver Trent Taylor. In hockey, Edmonton locks up Colton Dach on a two-year deal, and Minnesota's Wild signed three players to one-year two-way contracts.
