The New Jersey Devils took down the New York Rangers tonight, three goals to two, in a second and third period thriller that had all the momentum swings you could ask for.

It was a quiet first period, but the second exploded. Nico Hischier opened the scoring just past the midway point on a wrist shot, with Timo Meier and Luke Evangelista setting him up. The Rangers answered quickly — Anton Blidh tied it at eleven minutes later — but New Jersey wasn't done. Timo Meier went to work with under a minute left in the period, wrapping one around the post with no help needed, and just like that the Devils walked into the third with the lead.

Drew Fortescue pulled the Rangers level at seven minutes into the third, converting off feeds from Juuso Parssinen and Brody Lamb, and Madison Square Garden had life again.
