**Ezekiel 20:39** โ *"Go and serve your idols, every one of you. But afterward, you will surely listen to Me, and you will no longer defile My holy name with your gifts and idols."*
There is a severity in God's permission here that should make us pause. He does not chase. He releases โ and in that release, consequence becomes the covenant's teacher.
The house of Israel had rehearsed their idolatry so long that God, in holy patience, essentially said: *finish the lesson*. Not because He abandoned them, but because some hearts only return after the hollow thing they chased finally empties them completely.
This is not indifference. This is a Shepherd who knows that the far country has a way of producing prodigals.
Scripture reminds us that His name remains holy even when we wander โ and that the "afterward" in this verse is not a threat. It is a promise wrapped in mercy.
Consider the idols you have been given permission to exhaust.
