Welcome to Tech Beat, your daily read on the technology stories that matter.
IBM is calling its AI coding assistant Bob, and after a year of testing on eighty thousand of its own employees, the tool is now available to the world. IBM says productivity is up, though the name Bob and a loyalty token system called Bobcoins suggest someone in marketing was having a very good day.
On a similar note, Amazon is pushing into the already crowded AI assistant space with what it calls teammates β always-on agents designed to work across your applications. It joins a field that includes Microsoft, Google, and now IBM's Bob, which means enterprise workers may soon have more AI colleagues than human ones.
And rounding out the partnership announcements, OpenAI has confirmed its models, including Codex and managed agents, are coming to Amazon Web Services. That makes for an interesting dynamic β Amazon building its own AI tools while simultaneously hosting a competitor's, which tells you something about where the real money in this wave actually lives.
