**James 3:6** โ€” *"The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell."*

A single careless word spoken at a dinner table can reshape a family for a generation. James does not soften this. He traces the flame backward โ€” not to personality, not to stress, but to hell itself. The source matters.

This is not a call to silence. Scripture reminds us that the same tongue can bless the Father (James 3:9) and that gracious words are like honey to the soul (Proverbs 16:24). The tongue is not the problem โ€” its master is.

By grace, the Spirit who dwells within us is greater than the fire beneath us. Romans 8:13 calls us to put to death the deeds of the body by that same Spirit.

Let us reflect on who โ€” or what โ€” is currently holding the match.
