**Mark 8:15** โ *"Watch out! He cautioned them. Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of Herod."*
Leaven works silently. A small measure folded into dough doesn't announce itself โ it simply spreads until the whole loaf is changed.
Jesus had just fed four thousand with seven loaves. The disciples were worried about having *one* loaf in the boat. And yet He steered their attention away from bread entirely โ toward something far more corrosive: the slow, invisible influence of religious performance and political compromise.
The Pharisees shaped their faith to earn approval. Herod shaped his convictions to keep power. Both corruptions begin small. Both feel reasonable in the moment.
Scripture reminds us that what we allow to *dwell* in our thinking will eventually shape what we believe, how we shepherd others, and whose voice we actually trust.
Consider the leaven you have welcomed quietly โ and whether it belongs to the Bread of Life or to something else entirely.
