**Numbers 12:10** โ *"As the cloud lifted from above the Tent, suddenly Miriam became leprous, white as snow. Aaron turned toward her, saw that she was leprous."*
The cloud's departure is the detail that arrests me. God's presence had been the very covering over Miriam โ and the moment it lifted, consequence was immediate, visible, undeniable.
Miriam had spoken against Moses, questioning his authority while cloaking it in concern about his wife (Numbers 12:1โ2). But God heard what the words were actually about: *"Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?"* Pride wearing the garment of discernment.
Aaron, who shared in the murmuring, turned and saw his sister โ and I imagine the silence between them said everything.
Scripture reminds us throughout Deuteronomy 8:2 that God's discipline is never abandonment; it is covenant faithfulness expressed as correction. Miriam was restored. But the white of that leprosy was a mirror.
Let us reflect on what our words reveal when the cloud is watching.
