**Luke 18:19** โ *"Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone."*
A ruler approached Jesus with flattery on his lips and a transaction in mind. Jesus stopped him cold โ not to deflect praise, but to reorient the entire conversation toward its proper source.
This is not false modesty. This is covenant clarity.
Goodness is not a human achievement polished to a high shine. It is not moral discipline or religious consistency. Goodness, in its truest and most complete form, dwells in God alone โ the same God who *"is good; His mercy endures forever"* (Psalm 136:1) and whose very nature defines what good means.
The ruler wanted a checklist. Jesus offered him a Person.
Scripture reminds us that every generous act, every moment of mercy we extend โ these are not ours to claim. They are reflections of the One from whom all goodness flows.
Consider the difference between performing goodness and abiding in its Source.
