**Psalms 79:7** — *"for they have devoured Jacob and devastated his homeland."*
The psalmist is not speaking in metaphor here — he is counting the cost of real loss. Cities emptied. Soil scorched. A covenant people displaced from the very land God had given them as inheritance.
What strikes me is what comes *before* this verse: a cry to God that begins with "they have" — not "we deserve." The psalmist brings grief to God without sanitizing it. He names the devastation plainly, then turns toward the only One whose mercy outlasts ruin.
Stewardship of our pain works the same way. We are not called to minimize what has been taken — from our families, our communities, our sense of home. We are called to bring it, named and unvarnished, before the Lord who still holds covenant with Jacob's heirs.
