**Romans 12:11** โ *"Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord."*
Paul wrote this to believers living under Roman occupation โ people who had every earthly reason to grow weary, to quiet their faith, to blend in. Yet he calls them to *keep* the fervor, as if it were a flame requiring deliberate tending.
Zeal is not a feeling that arrives and stays. It is a steward's responsibility. The shepherd who stops checking the flock at dusk does not stop being a shepherd โ he simply stops shepherding.
Scripture reminds us that spiritual fervor is sustained not by emotion alone, but by covenant faithfulness โ showing up to serve even when the fire feels low. Elijah fled to the wilderness exhausted, yet God sent bread and said, *"the journey is too great for you"* (1 Kings 19:7). He was fed, and he rose.
Consider the flame you carry today โ and what it might look like to tend it with intention.
