**Judges 18:29** β€” *"They named it Dan, after their forefather Dan, who was born to Israelβ€”though the city was formerly known as Laish."*

A city renamed. An identity rewritten. But Scripture quietly notes the original β€” *Laish* β€” as if to say: what something was called before still matters.

The tribe of Dan claimed this land and stamped their own name upon it. Yet God's record preserves the former name. Nothing is simply erased in His accounting. History has weight. Origins carry meaning.

This is both a caution and a comfort. We cannot rename our past into nonexistence β€” but by covenant grace, God can redeem what the name once represented. Laish does not disappear; it becomes the foundation beneath Dan.

What we were before does not disqualify what we are becoming. The Shepherd who knows every city by its former name also knows every soul by its full story.

Walk with that truth today β€” the whole record is held in mercy.
