**Joshua 8:6** β *"They will pursue us until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, 'The Israelites are running away from us as they did before.' So as we flee from themβ¦"*
What looks like retreat is sometimes covenant strategy.
Joshua's commanders didn't flee in panic β they fled in purpose. Every step backward was a calculated act of obedience to a plan God had already spoken. The enemy read their movement as weakness, as repetition of old failure. They were wrong.
Scripture reminds us that God sometimes calls His people to appear vulnerable in order to accomplish what strength alone cannot. The ambush at Ai was not deception for its own sake β it was divine timing wearing the costume of defeat.
Walk with discernment here: not every season of apparent loss is failure. Some retreats are ordered by heaven itself, drawing the adversary precisely where God intends.
Let us reflect on what God may be orchestrating through what looks, to others, like running away.
