**Jeremiah 42:16** โ *"then the sword you fear will overtake you there, and the famine you dread will follow you on your heels into Egypt, and you will die there."*
The remnant of Judah had asked Jeremiah to seek God's will โ then fled toward Egypt before the answer arrived. Their dread traveled with them. This is the covenant logic God establishes throughout scripture: the threat we run *toward* safety to escape becomes the very thing our flight carries with us. Psalm 139:7 asks, *"Where can I flee from your presence?"* โ and Proverbs 14:26 answers, *"Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress."*
Obedience is not naivety. It is the one shelter where our fears do not follow us through the door.
Let us reflect on what we are fleeing toward today โ and whether we are carrying the very weight we believe we are leaving behind.
