**Acts 6:13** โ *"They presented false witnesses who said, 'This man never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.'"*
Stephen never spoke against the temple. He spoke *beyond* it โ toward the fulfillment the temple itself pointed to. That distinction cost him his life.
False testimony rarely invents from nothing. It takes what is true โ Stephen's bold proclamation of Christ as the greater dwelling place of God โ and twists it just enough to sound credible. The Sanhedrin didn't misquote him entirely. They misread him *deliberately*.
This is the peculiar burden of those who testify faithfully: the clearest gospel witness is often the most easily distorted by those who have the most to lose.
Stephen stood in that hall not defending himself, but reflecting the face of an angel (Acts 6:15). He abided in something no false word could reach.
Let us reflect on what we are willing to testify โ even when the testimony will be misrepresented.
