**Nehemiah 13:22** โ€” *"Then I instructed the Levites to purify themselves and guard the gates in order to keep the Sabbath day holy. Remember me for this as well, O my God, and show me mercy according to Your abundant loving devotion."*

Nehemiah doesn't finish his reform with a celebration. He finishes with a prayer โ€” not of pride, but of dependence.

Consider the posture here: a leader who *acted* with authority and *rested* in mercy. He stationed gatekeepers. He drew a boundary around the holy. Then he turned to God and said, *I cannot sustain this without You.*

This is the steward's deepest wisdom โ€” not that we manage well, but that we manage *humbly*, knowing our best obedience still requires grace to cover the gaps.

The gates we guard in our own lives โ€” our time, our attention, our households โ€” are only as holy as the One we entrust them to.

Let us reflect on what we are guarding, and for Whom.
