**John 18:25** โ€” *"Simon Peter was still standing and warming himself. So they asked him, 'Aren't you also one of His disciples?' He denied it and said, 'I am not.'"*

Notice the detail: Peter was *warming himself*. He had drawn close enough to the fire to feel its heat โ€” but not close enough to the truth to speak it.

This is the posture of the half-committed heart. Present in the courtyard, absent in conviction. Near the warmth, but unwilling to bear the name.

Scripture reminds us that proximity to sacred spaces does not equal covenant faithfulness. Peter stood where Jesus was being tried and chose comfort over testimony.

The mercy here is stunning โ€” this same Peter would stand before thousands at Pentecost and testify without flinching. Grace does not abandon those who waver; it restores and re-commissions them.

Consider the fires you warm yourself beside โ€” and what you are willing to say you are.
