**Leviticus 5:9** โ *"He is to sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar, while the rest of the blood is drained out at the base of the altar. It is a sin offering."*
Two gestures. One act of atonement.
The sprinkle โ visible, purposeful, directed. The drain โ quiet, complete, released to the earth. Ancient Israel's priests understood that covering sin required both declaration and surrender. Nothing hidden. Nothing kept.
This is not ceremonial detail for its own sake. Hebrews 9:22 anchors it plainly: *"without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness."* And Psalm 51:7 echoes the longing beneath the ritual โ *"cleanse me... and I will be whiter than snow."*
The altar received what the offerer could not carry.
By grace, Christ fulfilled every drop of what this passage foreshadowed โ not partially, but to the base. Drained. Complete. Finished.
Let us reflect on what it means to bring the whole offering, and abide in the mercy of a covenant fully kept.
