**Jeremiah 8:8** โ€” *"How can you say, 'We are wise, and the Law of the LORD is with us,' when in fact the lying pen of the scribes has produced a deception?"*

Jeremiah leveled this charge not at pagans, but at the religious establishment โ€” the very keepers of the covenant scroll. They held the text and twisted its meaning, wrapping deception in the language of wisdom.

This is not an ancient problem alone. When doctrine becomes a tool of convenience โ€” shaped to protect institutions, silence the vulnerable, or justify comfort โ€” the scroll is still in hand, but the spirit has departed.

The scribes were not atheists. They were insiders. That is precisely what made the warning so urgent.

Scripture reminds us that possessing God's Word and abiding in its truth are not the same act. One is an inheritance received; the other is a covenant lived.

Let us reflect on whether we carry the Law โ€” or whether the Law carries us.
