**Revelation 3:14** — *"These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Originator of God's creation."*
Before Christ addresses the lukewarm church at Laodicea, He establishes *who is speaking*. He does not begin with accusation — He begins with identity. The Amen. Not a closing word, but a title: the One in whom every promise of God finds its final, settled confirmation (2 Corinthians 1:20).
Laodicea was a wealthy city, self-sufficient, proud of its banking, its textiles, its eye salve. They had no need of Rome's aid after an earthquake. They believed they needed nothing.
So Christ — the faithful and true Witness — speaks first as the One who *cannot lie* about what He sees.
Scripture reminds us that truth, spoken in covenant love, is never cruelty. It is the mercy of a Shepherd who sees clearly what we have grown too comfortable to notice.
