**Amos 6:13** — *"you who rejoice in Lo-debar and say, 'Did we not take Karnaim by our own strength?'"*
Lo-debar means *nothing*. Karnaim means *horns of strength*. Israel was celebrating a conquest of nothing, boasting in strength that was never theirs.
The prophet Amos saw it clearly — a people mistaking divine patience for divine approval, crediting their own arm for what God had permitted. It is a quiet and ancient trap: when seasons of success arrive, the heart forgets its Source.
Scripture reminds us in Deuteronomy 8:17–18 to beware the whisper that says, *"My power produced this wealth"* — for it is God who gives the ability to produce it. And James 4:13–14 anchors us further: our plans, our gains, our very breath are held in open hands.
