**Isaiah 66:17** β *"Those who consecrate and purify themselves to enter the grovesβto follow one in the center of those who eat the flesh of swine and vermin and ratsβwill perish together," declares the LORD.*
The ritual language here is sharp and deliberate. These are not careless sinnersβthey *consecrate* themselves. They *purify* themselves. They perform the motions of holiness while walking directly into what God has forbidden.
This is the sobering precision of Isaiah's warning: devotion aimed at the wrong center is still devotion. The form of worship does not sanctify the object of worship.
Israel had absorbed surrounding practices, dressing them in sacred vocabulary. God saw through every layer.
Beloved, the covenant God we serve is not impressed by religious effort divorced from covenant faithfulness. He calls us to consecrate ourselves *to Him*βnot to the center of what the crowd is gathering around.
Let us reflect on what, or whom, truly stands at the center of our devotion.
