**Ezekiel 36:1** โ€” *"O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD."*

Barren ridges. Scorched soil. A land stripped bare by exile and enemy occupation. Yet God does not address the survivors first โ€” He addresses the *land itself.*

This is the covenant logic of Scripture: restoration begins at the root, not the branch. Before Israel's people return, the mountains must receive the word. The ground must be prepared to bear the weight of what God intends to rebuild.

There is something deeply pastoral here. God speaks to what appears silent, what appears ruined, what appears beyond recovery. He does not wait for the landscape to look ready.

Walk with that today โ€” whatever in your life resembles those stripped mountains, God's word reaches there first.

*Let us reflect on what it means that God addresses the desolate places before the dwelling begins.*
